Let us recall that your graduation depends upon this man. Kissing up is never a bad idea :) I agree though, rude emails are the worst. I have gotten some pretty rude emails in my day, but I bet you that Margie can tell the best stories about rude email correspondence.
Well it's not like I told him to shove it. I just responded with a similar email. I'm just tired of professors and associate instructors having no respect for students. I go to class everyday, I pay attention, give them respect, even smile when they try to make stupid jokes.
You are right though...it doesn't take much longer to craft a pleasant email...I'm proud that you even smile when they try to make stupid jokes. You are a good kid :)
I have to comment that I think you would be every teacher's dream come true. With all the anti-school attitudes out there (and I witness them all the time), you are a breath of fresh air! Let's not even get started on the issue of attending class. The fact that you attend every day says it all!
Yes, Karl, I would love to have you be a student in my class!
Rude emails are the worst. And Betsey is right. I've had more than my fair share of rude, condescending and patronizing emails sent my way. And as much you want to give the sender that same sediment back, it’s usually never worth it. There have been times that I've let myself draft a nasty reply email and then made myself delete it. There is just too much at stake and too much can be misconstrued and documented with email. Easily forwarded, nasty emails just mean trouble. (Though typing up the email DOES help to relieve those feeling of anger.) Bottom line. It's always better to take the high road when it comes to email. Always.
Kill 'em kindness. They won't know what hit 'em. I mean, really how do you think your professor would have reacted to the following,
“Mr. Dwight. I certainly hope this email finds you well. I have to admit I was a bit surprised by your recent email to me. I submitted the class survey on September 12 at 5:45p. Have you not received it? Will I need to resubmit it? Please let me know the most efficient way to alleviate this situation and I appreciate you letting me know of the delay.”
He would probably think, "That Karl is bright kid. He’ll go far in life. I was trying to be an ass and he didn’t let me."
Karl: 1 Dwight: 0 ;-) Anyway. I love you. Happy Friday. -M
sometimes what may seem like a rude e-mail to you may not be what was intended. - you might already have a sour note with that tperson so anything they write - you may turn it in your head as rude.
That is so true, Stacey! This professor may have just been reminding Karl about his project. Karl is the only one who knows what the relationship is really lile, so what may seem rude to him may not seem rude to us!
I know that Karl had no use for all those Bobby Knight-style coaches when he was growing up playing basketball. One of the reasons he didn't continue playing basketball in ninth grade was because he was sick of coaches up in his face, screaming obscenities. Karl hasn't really been yelled at much in his growing up life (he was always such a good little kid), and is used to being treated respectfully.
Anyway, we love you Karl, and hope for a future filled with people who will respect your even temperament, and your sense of fair play. You are still a good person!

So...let's hear some of Margie's rude emails.
Love you all,
