Plus! One of the races is in Altamont, CA! You could come visit us in LA! I guess that is if we are still here...Team Hawkins has no idea what is going on with the team after May :)

I say go for it! I think we could collect money to chip in for the $100. You could name the car the Gimbel racer after your sponsors :)

yes, it'll be the altamont race i'll be going to. weren't the deaths there during a concert the reason for the song "the day the music died"?

the 100 for the car isn't too bad. you guys need to chip in on a nomex suit, helmet, roll cage. kidding. thats were the real price will be though. the contest had a max value of the car at 500, but safety stuff for the car has no limit. safety first!!

i'm going to get casey auto-crossing next spring in preparation for the event. it will probably be in june or july.

"The day the music died" refers to an event that happened in Mason City, Iowa, just 30 miles away from Albert Lea, Minnesota, which is where I grew up. In February of 1959, there had been a concert, and the acts were in a real hurry to get out of there. They flew off in a small private jet during the middle of a blizzard, and crashed on take-off, killing Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and some other fifties rocker types.

But it sounds more glamorous to die in an auto race in California. What kind of safety gear are you talking? I would really need to know that you would be 100% completely safe before I could endorse such an event. I am, first and foremost, a MOM!

Love you. Give more details. Claudia

Cool dog. Don't embarrass the Gimbel name. I think I have you for the christmas exchange so let me know what you need... like a little hula dancer dashboard statue.

oh thats right. buddy holley. who could forget. more than anything, i mourn the loss of the Big Bopper.

No, i'm talking about the kids that were killed at the concert by the hells angels who were doing security. i think the stones were playing, but it was a festival in a string of festivals. it coincided with the over dose deaths of jimi hendrix and janis joplin. It was billed as the death of the 60's innocence. or something lie that.

anyway. off topic. what safety gear? your typical "race car" safety gear. it will be safe above all else. and embarrass the gimbel name? come on. what could i do any more embarrassing than i already have. nothing to lose!

did you guys read the website? its more of a spoof race anyway. just for fun. the spectators throw lemons at the drivers during the whole event.

i think, even more entertaining, is the fact that it will be my 3rd dodge/jeep/chrysler product. i've got a

Jeep Grand Cherokee
Dodge Colt (technically a mitsubishi)
and a
Plymouth Sundance

how odd is that. the only one driving an import here is Rusty.

I'm pretty sure i've never had any sort of affinity for dodge products. maybe because they're so cheap.

well i guess marge and brandon have an import, but Sweden doesn't count. plus that car was probably designed under partial general motors rule.

I read the website... it sounds like a lot of fun. You and the clan should do it. I could see you all in matching race jumpsuits now...

Ryan, when I read all your cute additional little comments, I just have to smile to myself. You are so much fun. I hope you do it, and I hope you do it safe. Let me know an appropriate Christmas present!

Love,
Claudia
