Turned phone back on, calls keeping me up. (see previous post)
I think South Park is funny. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but here's a blog appropriate NPR story about the show... listen to some of the stuff, it's funny.

Karl: A Question

I don't know if you remember, but I was 'out of town' for 2001 which means I missed the whole Donnie Darko thing, but upon my return I had the impression that the movie was quite beloved by Karl at the time. After all, he was around 16 at the time, great age to get into something really cool. I mean, OK Computer came out when I was 16. Anywho, I never saw the movie until just recently and I wanted to hear Karl's impressions of it.
So Karl, if you're out there, flash back and let me know what you liked about it. Really I ought to just call you for a chat about it, but really? I suck at phone talking. Ask Ed and Claudia. That and I live in the one Verizon blackout zone inside of CONUS.
Alternately, so as not to alienate the rest of you, what came out when you were circa 16 that made you start to take the featured medium (film, popular music, art whatevs) more seriously? (Or maybe just made you feel cool?)

My systems analysis and project management professor

"An unusual love story, a unique adventure, and a classic escape plan combine in Escape, the true story of Dwight and Barbara Worker..how they met, fell in love, married..and left a trail of outraged police and Interpol agents, arrested government officials, an embarrassed U.S. Embassy, and at least one dead body behind them. Dwight Worker was the first person since Pancho Villa to escape from the maximum security prison called Lecumberri in Mexico City. Through this lightening-paced account of what life inside a Mexican prison is really like, we relive with him the dramatic events leading up to his arrest and "trial" in Mexico City; his first hand confrontation with beatings, filth, rape, and extortion; his refusal to "cooperate" with prison commandos...a refusal that resulted in violent torture and a near-fatal stabbing. The engrossing narrative then takes the reader deeper and deeper inside this "inescapable" prison and its politics as Dwight describes the behind-the-scenes events Americans never hear of: a U.S. Embassy spokesman on the take from a Mexican lawyer; a corrupt network of U.S. trained narcotics agents with lucrative "connections" of their own; and a group of some 500 American prisoners, many of whom epitomize the plight of the stoned generation..passive, dependent, inarticulate, and in Dwight's words, "doped to the eyelids". Barbara, in alternating chapters explains how they met, their courtship, their plans for marriage and for freedom."
This is the description I found for my professors book, which was also made into a tv movie. I think he was arrested for drug smuggling. This stuff makes me laugh.

FOOD!!!

So I know it might sound boring but I think i'm going to record for you all what I eat in the next week. I think one of two things will happen. You will be amazed at all the junk I eat and it will stimulate some good conversation. You will become more aware of what you eat and it will help Gimbel Nation become more healthy. That or I will be self-conscience about all the peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches I eat and decide to eat better.

Old lady
some old lady asked me for 1.5 pounds of ground beef. I found a package with 1.66 pounds. She asked me to take the extra out. at our sale price of $1.29 she saved herself a little over 20 cents. Old ladies drive me crazy.

MOM
THANK YOU...
For buying me basketball cards and jerseys even though they are useless, for always telling me I'm handsome, for being so nice to my friends and offering to buy them pizza all the time, for making the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever, for singing to me when I was little... I'm sure I enjoyed it as much as you say, for making me birthday posters, for all the hugs you've given me, for being such a big fan of my basketball playing, for taking me on many memorable vacations out west, for coming in to my 2nd grade class and making bread, for always telling me I'm so smart, for taking your aggressions out on a spoon and not me, for making me food when I whine that I'm hungry, for taking me to Washington DC in 8th grade, for your continuous generosity, for the ability to laugh at farts... you are amazing at that, for the work ethic you instilled in me, for fun car rides in the fiero up to ipfw, for peeling oranges for me because I don't have fingernails and am too lazy, for making a great apple pie, for wrapping presents for us while we all went to see Christmas movies, for all the other things I'm skipping over and for all the things you will do in the future, thank you for loving me so much Mom. I love you too.

Lloyd, spandau ballet, pau gasol
I have also been listening to R&B singer Lloyd. It's kinda rap and probably none of you would like it, but whatever. His single "you" is a sample of spandau ballet's "true" which was in sixteen candles.
Here is a picture of one of my favorite basketball players Pau Gasol. Hopefully someday I will have hair and a beard like him so mom can think i'm ugly. Woohoo!!!

Happy Birthday Ryan!!!!
Hey dude. Happy birthday. I hope you're having a fun day. Tell us what you are doing/did. I would call but don't know what your schedule is like. What shift do you work? Plus I don't have much to say other than happy birthday and my phone message wouldn't be as funny as your birthday phone message to me. "what up dude. Just thought i'd call and say happy birthday bro." It wasn't anything in particular you said that was funny, but it was. I should have kept it.

I'm a wuss
Just another funny anecdote from my extremely interesting life. So I was home this weekend because Emily's sister was having a baby shower and I decided to come with (but I did not attend the baby shower, so NO that is not why I am a wuss). Mom was telling me about grandpa and how he fell and his arm was all gross and what not. Well I started feeling funny and got really light headed and had to sit down. I can't even take hearing about gross stuff!! I'm such a wuss. I went and saw him and I was fine. Who knows what's wrong with me. First, I run away from the zodiac and now this...
The Zodiac...

So Emily and I were heading home from the library the other night. She had to watch some bugs bunny cartoons for a class after work and I said I would join her. While leaving, we were talking about this buddhist monestary in Bloomington so we thought we'd drive by to see where it was and what it was like. Don't ask us why we decided to do this at 11:45 at night when it's extremely foggy and creepy out, but we did. Turns out the thing is on old state road 37. You don't have to be familiar with the area to know that OLD STATE ROAD whatever the number is going to be scary. So we turn down this really steep road and at the top I see a reflector, but nothing else. As we get closer turns out the reflector was a guy holding a flashlight standing at the side of the road, looking like he just came out of the woods. Just standing there... waiting for us to pass (or maybe stop). Needless to say, i've been making zodiac jokes since...

Broncos Basketball & Bowling
Just wanted to let you guys know that the Intramural basketball and bowling seasons are upon us and that the Broncos will be looking for your support. In our first basketball game of the season the Broncos beat the C.D.O.'s 55-47. The other team was made up of the video coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, manager, and academic advisor for the Indiana University men's basketball team so 4 of the IU players showed up to watch their staff get smoked. Tonight's action includes the "four horsemen" Sam Fennig, Doug Oetting, Justin Garcia, and Jeremy Rauch (or me if Rauch is busy) bowling for bragging rights against Shore Party. Should be a classic battle. GO BRONCOS
