The coolest thing happened about 11:30 today. Jonathan Johnson showed up on our doorstep with wife and daughter in tow. It was so fantastic to see him again, and to meet his lovely wife, Jessica, and his sweet, 4-month old daughter, Hope. Isn't that the most beautiful name, Hope! Anyway, we visited for about an hour and a half! He got to tour the place and see all the improvements. Like you, he wondered why Ed waited until the kids were all grown and gone. And he marvelled at all of Ed's great carpentry.
He and Jessica just built a house in Tennessee--actually, Jessica was in charge because Jon was in Iraq! Just in case you want to stay in touch, his address is 583 Mountain View Drive, Clarksville, Tennessee 37043. His phone is 931-358-5386, and his email address is Jonathan Johnson42@yahoo.com. Betsey, he would like a copy of the family contact list when you update it! They said they have lots of room for visitors, and Margie and Brandon, they even talked about moving to North Carolina, which they both feel is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
We had quite a conversion about his time spent in Iraq. If you ever want to know what the real truth is about stuff going on, you really need to talk to a serviceman. They are the only ones who have the real perspective about it all. I learned more from Jonathan than I've ever learned from reading magazines and newspapers, or listening to NPR or CNN. He is so intelligent and erudite (He said, "Just like Rusty!" He is so amazed that the two of them are pursuing such like careers, from such unlike angles.
Anyway, he had wonderful memories of time spent in our home. You all hold such a special place in his heart! I thought you might like to know!
Love, Claudia
